　　1.conference n. 会议, 讨论会, 协商会

　　解析：a fact-finding conference 调查会

　　a press (news) conference 记者招待会

　　be in conference 正在开会讨论

　　call (convene, convoke) a conference 召集会议

　　have a conference with 和... 协商[谈判]

　　【同】meeting, congregation, congress, council, assembly

　　2.【辨析】meeting 最为一般，最不正式，可以是偶然的，也可以是安排好的;

　　conference 比较正式，可指两人或多人聚会;

　　assembly 是多人的有计划的集会;

　　congress 常指立法机构，国家机关;

　　council 可指多国参加的会议，也可指特定目标的非法定团体;

　　congregation 指某一宗教的会众，大写指以色列人。

　　3.contrast vt. 使与... 对比, 使与...对照vi. 和... 形成对照n.对比, 对照, (对照中的)差异

　　解析：作名词 contrast 后面可以跟 between,with 或 to：

　　There is a sharp contrast between his earlier and later works.

　　他的早期作品和晚期作品截然不同。

　　解析：beyond debate 无疑义，无可争辩，unanimous
